NAV 2018 Windows Client Configuration Mode

Hello,

I was recently told that users can no longer use config mode for the windows client in 2018 even though we are still able log in in config mode and make and store changes. Can someone confirm if there is, in fact, a risk with using config mode to customize the UI.

If there is a risk and we should stop using it does anyone have a solution for the following:

My client wants to customize the pages for:

  • Fast tab field organization
  • Column orders on list views and sales lines
  • Reorganize Ribbons
  • Create saved views of various lists

By doing it in config mode they could set the standard in all of their profiles and disable personalization.

We were told not to use that any longer but to use the designer in the web app instead. The problem there is that the tool only allows us to do field change and column orders, I cannot touch the ribbon or the Navigation pane nor can I create any saved list views.

So, we did have feature added back in 2013 called Copy personalization where they could do all the personalizations in a specific profile and then copy that to every user who should have the same layout. It basically allows a templated approach and copies the user personalization data over to the selected users. We suggested using this but the issue is this customer wants to disable personalization for their users so if we do that on those profiles then it stops reading all of the personalization, it doesn't just prevent new users from being able to show/hide.

If I was given incorrect information and we can, in fact, use it (I will do a happy dance) I was seeing issues where users on different service tiers were not picking up the changes done by the user in config mode. Is this an known issue and is there a recommendation for handling it?

Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you,
