Batch numbers for production orders

Our customer is used to using [Work order No].[Line No].[Assemby No].[Batch No]

e.g. 1234567.2.0.1 to identify WIP.

We are gong to use Production Orders with Routings, Output Journals etc.

I noticed that there is a 'Batch Name' for output journals, but I think this is different and is just a collective name for the group of output journal lines being posted.

Since I can't see any other way in NAV to have a "[Production Order].[Line No].[Batch No]", would it be sensible for me to name each 'Batch Name' as

[Production Order No].[Line no].[Batch no]

(forgetting the Assembly number as I don't think this is too necessary)

e.g. 1234567.2.1  ?

This would mean a batch number for every posted 'prod order/line/batch', and that I could not post the batch until it was finished.

And, is there a better way ?
